ANIME EXPO 09 DAY1

July 3rd, 2009

Today was the first real day of the convention.  The day was mostly spent waiting in line for the dealers room which was really quite huge.  After nearly five hours of buying the AR crew went back to the hotel for some refreshment and viewing of the “goods.” At 10PM JAST USA held a panel at the convention center that we had to go catch.  The slideshow from the projector is all attached to the post.  On another quick note Zion won another game while at the panel so things went smooth.  To sum it up quickly the panel covered:

  • Finished Projects
  • New Game Announcements
  • Current Projects
  • Introduction of Nitro+ Projects (Videos to come possibly)

[EDIT] Images to come; tired and stuff is being retarded.

ANIME EXPO 09 DAY 0

July 1st, 2009

It was a fun and slow drive through the dirty city of LA to our hotel, parking was a nightmare and costs above fair but I could rant all day long about how bad the area is, but the hotel is nice.
We settled in and made a dash for the Convention center only to arrive at a HUGE LINE, go figure. Two hours and one half later we were still in line.

Summer Convention Rant

June 24th, 2009
We love conventions!

We love conventions!

Break out the badges and swag bags its convention season. The smell, the crowds, the lines, and the experience.. its like few things on earth. Amazing how cities and hotels deal with cos-players and basement dwelling nerds so well. Most conventions bring out the weird, the odd, and the ugly, and I must say I’m rather getting sick of furries and scene bombers at conventions. You’re doing it wrong, go yiff in hell!

Odd thought 1.0
Things people forget to bring to cons:

  1. Deodorant
  2. Water
  3. Food
  4. Clothes
  5. Common sense

Shojo Beat Shutters

May 21st, 2009

QQ MoreImagine a thousand fangirls crying out in an instant.  That is the type of reaction I expect from Shojo Beat closing its doors. The July issue of Shojo Beat that will be its last. The publication by Viz is getting the axe but they appear to be doing it in a much more tolerable way than Newtype USA did.

Flash Back Review: Plastic Little DVD

May 7th, 2009

While Trolling at the local Anime shop I found some interesting early 90’s anime on DVD. So I made some purchases, and one of them was Plastic Little, a movie I always wanted to see but could never find.

Nice Cover

Nice Cover

After acquiring it I returned to the dungeon and popped it into the DVD player, the old ADV intro and related run past the screen, then a boom and the menu comes up. Got a few choices to make, ok they are:
-Play movie
-Scene selection
-Language setting
-Extras

I jumped to the Extras and found some trailers, art from production and my favorite the Jiggle Counter. Enabled that fun little feature and headed back to main menu. I started the film, the English track was on before I realized that I forgot to switch it over, but I decided heck let it ride anyway. So I watched a good portion in English and about half way I swapped back to the Japanese sound track. The dub was good, but made no sense, the voice actors all voiced the characters like they were from mother Russia, and Sweden, and it was bad to say the least, but at least it was in Dolby 5.1, where the natural sound track was only 2.0 stereo.

Vista/Windows 7 x64 CCCP Fix

April 16th, 2009

cccpIf you watch anything more than WMA or Quicktime on your computer, you will know that codecs are your  best friend and worst enemy when it comes to playback. The best codec pack(This is fact because I am saying it!) is the Combined Community Codec Pack or CCCP for short. All you have to do is download the installer and let it run. The default settings allow playback in either Media Player Classic or Zoom Player, which I prefer the latter of the two. If you use Windows Vista x64 or 7 x64 then you may have some issues concerning the playback using the default settings of Zoom Player(At least I know I did). Here are the steps I took to fix this issue!.

The Coolest Nike Commercial Ever

April 15th, 2009
Suddenly I want shoes

Suddenly I want shoes

All I can say about this is just WOAH. The description says that it was made in collaboration with Morimoto Kouji from Studio 4 ℃. The advertisement is for Nikeid which is not one that we are familiar with out here in the states but if it brings commercials like this then I welcome it with open arms. We need more interesting advertisements like this, our TV has been getting bland. Now watch and behold this 1 minute of interesting, this is what I find randomly because I have my youtube localization set to japanese thanks to a good suggestion by Yudothat. I get the feeds from the popular videos on the japanese version of youtube so I can check out my animu related content faster and be a really cool guy. The things I do for you reader(s).

Utawarerumono TV, OVA, and Games

April 11th, 2009

I have recently sat down and Re-Re-Re watched utawarerumono TV in HD, All I can say is wow, I love this show!

She will rock your world!

She will rock your world!

If you have never seen utawarerumono let alone heard of it you’re most likely not alone, but you should go out and buy the DVD or Blu-Ray set. This show makes me laugh, cry, and think deeply, it was a good experience overall. I should note that I played the PC game, and that I am looking forward to the OVA coming out on JUNE 5th in beautiful 1080P. Many fans of game for PC say the TV series was a travesty, and that it did not tell the story correctly. This argument is half correct, but we must look at it from different angles, from the ERO point of view the TV series was lacking, the logical reason for this is simple, in a game you have choices to make and those decisions will change the story and reflect a different angle.

Also LEAF the company behind utawarerumono had to create something that could be played on TV say in a prime time TV slot, so ERO content and nudity were out. It is widely believed that the up and coming OVA is going to help fill those holes maybe literally with that missing content. That said LEAF is basically giving back to its fans with service, doing what they originally did. PRO TIP: utawarerumono was a turn based H game before it was cleaned up and ported to the Ps2 and then became an anime TV series. This OVA will fill in some side stories, give more justice to the PC game and summarize very briefly, like 3 episodes briefly.

Trailers are at the bottom and more information.
